This bed requires only a mallet to assemble or dis-assemble. We use a mortise and tennon for the footboard and headboard. Iron slot and hook hardware is used for the bed rails. This bed can be purchased in any size, and is made for use with a mattress only - a box spring is not required. It stands 48" at the headboard and 36" at the footboard.
